In 1914 Guglielmo Marconi built a wireless station in Chatham, Cape Cod that would distinguish itself as the busiest ship-to-shore station in the Northern Hemisphere for most of the 20th century. With this historic operation he took the initial technological genius of the first transatlantic transmittion and transformed it into the every day business of wireless communication that is at the heart of today's radio, cell phones, and satellite transmissions. His station, Chatham Radio WCC, made historic transmissions to the Hindenberg, Amelia Earhart, Admiral Byrd, and Howard Hughes, among others.
