Music and video by SlowStrider (Henno Vermeulen) Lyrics by Edgar Allan Poe I had a dream of myself playing a song. When I woke up I only remembered me singing the line "dream within a dream" and the use of a repeating riff. So I decided to write a song with the lyrics of the poem "Dream Within a Dream" by Poe and add a riff that sounds a bit like the one I heard in my dream. Verse 1: Take this kiss upon the brow! And, in parting from you now, Thus much let me avow- You are not wrong, who deem That my days have been a dream; Verse 2: Yet if hope has flown away In a night, or in a day, In a vision, or in none, Is it therefore the less gone? therefore the less gone? Chorus: All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream. Verse 3 (spoken): I stand amid the roar Of a surf-tormented shore, And I hold within my hand Grains of the golden sand- Solo Chorus Verse 4: How few! yet how they creep Through my fingers to the deep, While I weep- while I weep! O God! can I not grasp Them with a tighter clasp? Verse 5: O God! can I not save One from the pitiless wave? Is all that we see or seem But a dream within a dream? a dream within a dream? Chorus
